What is major reeason for installing Membrane Bio Reactor instead of Conventional Activated Sludge process ?

The major reason for going with an MBR system in my opinion is to cut down on the footprint that an activated sludge system would occupy. However, another reason is that The membranes filtrate is of a much higher quality due to the reduced amount of TSS in its effluent versus the effluent from activated sludge plant
A driving factor for many utilities is the need to recover / recycle / reuse their wastewater. In the arid west, membrane bioreactors allow municipalities to produce drinking water quality water that can then be used to irrigate public spaces like parks and apartment building lawns. Other municipalities take this clean water and inject it into the ground for aquifer storage. There are other ways to produce reuse quality water. Regulation 22 in California contains a list of approved technologies. For facilities with extra low nutrient limits, membranes eliminate problems with poorly settling activated sludge due to nutrient deficiency and/or filamentous bacteria growth.
