What are some alternative disinfectants to the commonly used Chloramine, which is known to cause issues?
I think we need to look at it from a different perspective - we need to look at ways in reducing the need for so much Chloramine. Reducing the amount of organic matter in the water will prevent the need for so much and prevent bio fouling issues. Also, by using better filtration systems, the amount of Chloramine needed to be used can be greatly reduced. We need to work on advancing these filtration systems, as the issue of water quality will become more and more of a problem as we have seen lately in the press.
I found mention of some promising advances in the filtration industry at the link: http://chloramineinfocenter.com/?page_id=29
Here is a quote from the above link "A new Nano-filtration system including electropositive media and carbon filter is capable of removing nano sized particles and contaminants at high flowrates, which would outperform the ultra and micro-filtration systems." It is good to see advances in the industry!
