Wet weather flows cause sludge blankets to rise in clarifiers, how to control.
Have you done an analysis of flow compare to capacity of your plant? If the inlet flow is bigger than the plant design flow you will always get problems during wet weather. The only way to get control is to control infiltration and inflow during wet weather or have storage reservoir before plant.
Tamie is correct. However, if your plant is capable of operating in step feed mode, you can save a good amount of your biomass from washing out of the clarifier by bypassing a portion of your aeration basin with your influent flow. That will keep some of the solids from entering the clarifier. And then you can optimize it by adjusting your return rates. Treatment will be affected of course. But as it is, you’re discharging Effluent high in TSS during washout anyway. If you are uncertain about what I’m talking about you can reach out to me and I’ll try to explain in further detail.
