I have decided to try my hand at improving my brewing water, and to that end have got some information from Scottish Water, my local supplier. They have given me a datasheet that covers Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Sulphates and Chloride but not Carbonates, which they say they are not required to measure. However, There is a separate water hardness sheet available on their website which gives hardness as Calcium Carbonate in mg/L. How close is this figure likely to be to total carbonates? If I can't use this measurement to estimate total carbonates is there a way I can detemine what that might be myself, short of stumping up for the water analysis Brew Uk sells?Any advice gratefully appreciated.
