How about SiO3 sand....
Please provide the following additional information: -speed or ratio of flow rate to surface area -iron, manganese, ammonium concentrations -open or pressurized filter -type of aeration (waterfall, tower or reactor)
Thanks for your responses. I have a ratio of flow to surface area of 37 m3/10 m2. The latest analyses indicate 2.48 mg/l of iron and a pH of 5.74. That is all the info I have at the moment. It is an open filter. There is a waterfall aerator.
When you say rehabilitation, are you adding new media or simply starting up a system that was temporarily shut down?
There are various variety of sands based on the micron removal you are trying to achieve. Usually 0.45-0.55 mm sand will be best with you application for iron removal.
