Municipal Water Softening plants in Ontario?
I do not have an example for a plant where treatment was installed specifically for water softening; typically these systems would be installed for individual commercial/industrial applications where hard municipal water is not acceptable (e.g laundromats, hotels, etc.). For small water systems, some municipal facilities have softening upstream of UV disinfection (typically for UV systems that do not have a wiper) to reduce fouling on the lamps due to hardness and iron. While not specifically a water softening plant, the Bethel WTP in the County of Brant has a larger ion-exchange system for nitrate removal that operates on the same ion-exchange principle as a softener, but with an anion exchange resin instead. http://www.wateronline.com/doc/orica-watercares-low-waste-nitrate-removal-0001
