Hi, Are you asking about doing the work yourself or about supervising a subcontractor on a job site?
Follow-uping on the work by a subcontractor.
Hi, The following list of steps is not exhaustive. It must be adapted to the type of construction and location (rural, urban, industrial, etc.). Make sure you know who is responsible for the various aspects of the project. A company that has responded to a call for tender is in charge of the execution of the project and applying and complying with all risk prevention measures (shoring, signage, etc.). They are also responsible for reporting any breaches to the project manager or local authorities if necessary. If the refurbishment lasts several days, you should inquire about its progress in order to be able to respond to any needs or inquiries by local stakeholders. Aspects you need to check: -Contents of the job-site file (location and nature of the work to be performed, obligation to inform end users, etc.) -The supply of parts and materials to the job site -Subcontractor and their employees’ ability to locate the specific excavation site and general knowledge of the work area -What are the measures proposed to minimize inconvenience for residents (information, traffic?) -If heavy equipment is used or there is a risk of adverse environmental impact, a permit may need to be secured. This will include a statement as to the state of the site prior to the work beginning, which will be used as the basis for compensation in the event of damage during repairs or construction. -Excavation is performed in accordance with the rules of prevention (shoring and shielding, etc.). -The surface area in question is evacuated. Waste and cuttings are removed in the approved manner: pipe (plastic, asbestos), coated... -Installation of new parts is monitored. -A precise topographical survey is done to ensure the execution and plans match. -The trench is backfilled in layers. A temporary (or permanent) final surface covering is installed. -Hydraulic testing is done to ensure the structure is waterproof. -Results of disinfection are obtained and verified to ensure they comply before pipes go into service. -Take part in confirming completion of the project.
